Barratt: Mull and Mor Development in Temperate Grasslands Factors of Mull and Mor Development in Temperate Grasslands
نویسنده
چکیده
Grassland humus forms have been investigated morphologically in the field and with the microscope (Barratt 1960, 1964). They are divisible into two main groups: mulls and mors. In mulls, organic residues are finely conllninuted and intimately mixed with the colloidal-sized fraction of the mineral soil. In mors, organic residues accumulate predominantly above the mineral soil surface, but show progressive decomposition with increasing proximity to the mineral soil, and typically three layers are produced.

متن کاملClimate change experiments in temperate grasslands: synthesis and future directions.
The immediate need to understand the complex responses of grasslands to climate change, to ensure food supplies and to mitigate future climate change through carbon sequestration, necessitate a global, synthesized approach. Numerous manipulative experiments have altered temperature or precipitation, often in conjunction with other interacting factors such as grazing, to understand potential eff...

متن کاملVegetation in North America Series: Abstract of Biomes Dominated by Tree Species
The biome concept is used to classify vegetation into distinct groups. This concept integrates the relationship of plants and animals with their distributions. North America is comprised of 11 biomes (arctic tundra, desert, broad sclerophyll, pinyon-juniper, temperate grasslands, northern coniferous forest, moist temperate coniferous forest, temperate deciduous forest, mountain complex, subtrop...
متن کاملSummertime elemental mercury exchange of temperate grasslands on an ecosystem-scale.
In order to estimate the air-surface mercury exchange of grasslands in temperate climate regions, fluxes of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) were measured at two sites in Switzerland and one in Austria during summer 2006. Two classic micrometeorological methods (aerodynamic and modified Bowen ratio) have been applied to estimate net GEM exchange rates and to determine the response of the GEM flu...
